Keeping Pre-Rolls Fresh in Cigarette Boxes

There are two ways to add a protective freshness seal to the outside of your pre-roll packaging - overwrapping and heat-shrinking. Both methods involve a plastic based material wrapped around the outside of the package. The biggest differences are going to come down to the finished look and the method of sealing, and thus the machines required to seal the cigarette boxes.

Overwrapping

Overwrapping is the norm for the cigarette industry. If you are familiar with that shiny clear plastic that comes on every cigarette box, you are familiar with overwrapping. You may have also noticed that gold strip that allows you to easily peel apart and open the cigarette box - this is called a tare tape. Heat-Shrinking

Heat-shrinking is similar to overwrapping, as it is a clear film, but instead of wrapping the film tightly around the item, it is heat-sealed in a plastic bag, which is then placed in a heat tunnel, which causes the plastic to shrink and perfectly form a tight seal around the entire package.

Another way of adding some freshness to your pre-roll packaging is adding a humidity pack to your cigarette box. Humidity packs are small paper packs filled with humidity controlling materials. The fluid inside the humidity pack helps regulate the humidity in the packaging with some really cool chemistry and physics. Inside the humidity pack is a mixture of water and special salts, which have the ability to absorb or give off humidity relative to the humidity of the surrounding environment.

The humidity packs have a special film that only allows water vapors to pass in or out, so depending on if your flower needs more or less moisture the humidity packs are able to regulate that! Humidity packs are tear and spill resistant, so they won’t open up into your product. They are safe to use in direct contact with food products, so they are definitely safe to use with cannabis.

The sizes of the humidity packs are dependent upon how much flower you want to keep fresh. For example, our smallest size is designed for pre-rolls, so it can keep 1 full gram pre-roll perfectly fresh or 2 half-gram pre-rolls. We have larger sizes for pre-roll multi-packs like 2 grams, 4 grams, and 8 grams, or more! The different humidity percentages offered are 55% and 62%.
