The cigarette style box is a classic design, which works perfectly for hemp or cannabis farms using cigarette tubes, but they can also be perfectly sized for pre-rolls as well! The most popular pack sizes we have seen are:

• Five 0.7 gram pre-rolls - Total weight 3.5 grams per pre-roll pack
• Seven 0.5 gram pre-rolls - Total weight 3.5 grams per pre-roll pack
• 10 cigarette tubes or pre-rolled cones - Total weight 5 grams - 7 grams per pack
• 20 cigarette tubes - Total weight 10 grams - 14 grams per pack

Getting started on custom cigarette packaging is easy with our team of pre-roll experts! We have all the die-lines and support you need to get going. We can also help you with design services if you don’t have the perfect design yet. There are some things to consider when using a custom cigarette box for your pre-roll packaging, for example child resistance regulations. Some states require all cannabis packaging to be certified child resistant. Standard cigarette boxes are not child resistant. Definitely check with your local state laws to ensure your pre-roll packaging is compliant! If your dispensaries put all products in an exit-bag, it may not matter or some states allow flower and pre-rolls to not be child resistant, as they do with edibles!

Another thing to consider is freshness, so your pre-rolls smoke just as well as you intended, even if it takes weeks to get from your farm, to the store, then sold, and then finally smoked! Compared to mylar bags, paper packaging is not nearly as good of a moisture or oxygen barrier. However, paper packaging is much more effective at keeping your pre-rolls safe, not to mention it has a more premium look and is more environmentally friendly. There are a few easy ways to increase the freshness of your pre-roll multi-packs, like adding a freshness seal to the outside of your pre-roll packaging or by adding a humidity pack to the inside of your pre-roll package.

Adding a freshness seal to your pre-roll packaging:

There are two ways to add a protective freshness seal to the outside of your pre-roll packaging - overwrapping and heat-shrinking. Both methods involve a plastic based material wrapped around the outside of the package. The biggest differences are going to come down to the finished look and the method of sealing, and thus the machines required to seal the cigarette boxes.

Overwrapping

Overwrapping is the norm for the cigarette industry. If you are familiarwith that shiny clear plastic that comes on every cigarette box, you are familiar with overwrapping. You may have also noticed that gold strip that allows you to easily peel apart and open the cigarette box - this is called a tare tape. We sell overwrapping machines that are easy to use and allow you to add a gold or clear tear tape!

Heat-Shrinking

Heat-shrinking is similar to overwrapping, as it is a clear film, but instead of wrapping the film tightly around the item, it is heat-sealed in a plastic bag, which is then placed in a heat tunnel, which causes the plastic to shrink and perfectly form a tight seal around the entire package.

Humidity Packs

Another way of adding some freshness to your pre-roll packaging is adding a humidity pack to your cigarette box. Humidity packs are small paper packs filled with humidity controlling materials. The fluid inside the humidity pack helps regulate the humidity in the packaging with some really cool chemistry and physics. Inside the humidity pack is a mixture of water and special salts, which have the ability to absorb or give off humidity relative to the humidity of the surrounding environment. The humidity packs have a special film that only allows water vapors to pass in or out, so depending on if your flower needs more or less moisture the humidity packs are able to regulate that! Humidity packs are tear and spill resistant, so they won’t open up into your product. They are safe to use in direct contact with food products, so they are definitely safe to use with cannabis.

Humidity packs come in different shapes, sizes, and humidity percentages. We offer two main shapes - circular and rectangular. The only difference between the shapes is how they may fit in your packaging. For example, the circular humidity packs were designed to fit in the lids of your typical glass jar. The sizes of the humidity packs are dependent upon how much flower you want to keep fresh. For example, our smallest size is designed for pre-rolls, so it can keep 1 full gram pre-roll perfectly fresh or 2 half-gram pre-rolls. We have larger sizes for pre-roll multi-packs like 2 grams, 4 grams, and 8 grams, or more! The different humidity percentages offered are 55% and 62%.
